Vermont-based progressive metalheads Barishi perform an intriguing, and eminently listenable, blend of black metal and hard rock, and they finally come into their own with Blood From The Lion’s Mouth. Groove-metal riffs, thundering drums, and piercing shrieks are stuffed into four and five minute hard rock bangers to excellent effect. It all builds to the monumental progressive metal of The Deep, a nine-minute crash course in how to construct an epic rock song. For pure, unadulterated, heavy hard rock, it’s tough to do better than these guys right now.
