C. Duncan - The Midnight Sun
2016
Indie Pop / Dream Pop
FatCat Records
In 2015 Glaswegian musician C. Duncan released Architect, an album full of lush chamber pop influenced by his classical music background. One year and one Mercury Prize later, Duncan returns with the relaxing, lush dream pop of The Midnight Sun. While perhaps not as immediately striking as Architect, Duncan’s dreamy soundscapes are still a joy to lose oneself in. Claiming to have been partially inspired by old episodes of The Twilight Zone, Duncan doubles down on his ethereal, choral-esque vocals to wonderfully eerie results. Synths bubble, rise and pierce the arrangements while simple percussion keeps pace. A lovely dreamlike reverie of an album to be listened to alone.
