Axel Willner, the electronic artist who releases wonderful minimal techno records under the guise The Field, has been steadily and quietly killing the game since his debut album, the excellent From Here We Go Sublime, dropped in 2007. His music showcases a masterful understanding of atmosphere and forward momentum by taking simple beats and loops and slowly transforming them over ten minute long suites. This is headphone candy of the highest order — bits of auxiliary percussion and arpeggiating bass synths dance around simple four to the floor techno beats, creating a hypnotic late-night club vibe. This is electronic music to come down to at 3 AM when the doors are finally closing, or to drift off with at the end of the night.
